MINNEAPOLIS – For the first time in Shelby Frank's career, the Grand Forks, N.D., native is an Academic All-American, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Wednesday. Frank was named to the Second Team after a stellar indoor campaign where she finished as the nation's runner-up in the weight throw.

Frank, a Kinesiology major, won her first career Big Ten Championship in the weight throw this season with a throw of 24.14m, making her one of nine collegiates to ever reach that mark in history. Frank's 24.14m mark was the No. 2 mark in the NCAA during the indoor season. She finished second at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 23.42m, earning her first indoor First Team All-America honor and second overall in her career (outdoors, discus). Frank was also named the Big Ten's Field Athlete of the Indoor Championships and was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year. Lastly, Frank improved her weight throw lifetime best from 21.30m to 24.14m from the 2022 season to the 2023 season.

Minnesota has earned at least one Academic All-America honoree in each of the last five years on the women's side. The 2023 Academic All-America Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
