MINNEAPOLIS - Bailey Oetting, a member of the Minnesota Softball staff for the 2023 season, has been promoted to assistant coach, head coach Piper Ritter announced.

"I'm thrilled Bailey has agreed to become our new assistant coach," said Ritter. "To put it simply, the moment she stepped on campus she has been one of us. We love her toughness and grit along with her passion for the game and the team."

With Oetting's assistance, the Golden Gophers saw two NFCA All-Americans in Taylor Krapf and Autumn Pease, five NFCA Great Lakes All-Region honorees (Taylor Krapf, Autumn Pease, Natalie DenHartog, Jess Oakland, Kayla Chavez), five All-Big Ten First Team Selections (Taylor Krapf, Autumn Pease, Natalie DenHartog, Jess Oakland, Kayla Chavez), a third place finish in conference play, a Big Ten Tournament semifinal appearance, and berth in the 2023 NCAA Tournament at the Seattle Regional.

"I am so very thankful for the opportunity to be able to coach at the University of Minnesota," said Oetting. "Golden Gopher athletics creates a great atmosphere for all student-athletes to compete in. The resources available to them on and off the field are incredible, it shows that every student-athlete is supported and valued here at the 'U.' I'm most excited to join the softball program full-time, Coach Ritter and her staff continue to build a successful program on team culture, integrity, and a winning mentality. I have so much respect for this coaching staff and am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me to be able to coach in such an awesome atmosphere. I'm ready to get to work and help continue to build on the values that Coach Ritter and her staff have established! Ski-U-Mah! Go Gophers!"

Oetting joined the 'U' staff after spending the 2022 season at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., as its assistant coach, helping the Chargers to a 31-20 record.

After graduating from Arizona State in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Oetting began her coaching career as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with Arizona Christian University in Phoenix. She spent the 2019 season as the head coach at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Ill., before two years as a graduate assistant at Southern Arkansas. Oetting guided the Muleriders to a No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II during the 2020 season before a 29-10 record and NCAA Central Region Tournament appearance in 2021.

As a player, Oetting made 11 appearances behind the plate on the 2017 Arizona State team playing for then Sun Devils assistant coach and current Gophers' associate head coach Carly Wynn. The team went on to win 31 games and reached the NCAA Oxford Regional. Prior to her time at ASU, she played at Muscatine Community College in Iowa, serving as the team's primary catcher and tallied a .286 batting average with six doubles, a home run and 16 RBI in 33 games.
