Chesley, Cooley honored by AHCA
MINNEAPOLIS - Ryan Chesley and Logan Cooley from the University of Minnesota men's hockey team were recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association as Krampade All-American Scholars for 2022-23.
Chesley was a mainstay along the blueline for the Golden Gophers in his first season of college hockey and appeared in 36 of the team's 40 games. The Mahtomedi, Minn., native reached double-digit points with 10 for the year on two goals and eight assists, while eight of those points came during home games. Minnesota held a perfect 8-0-0 record when Chesley registered a point, including the first point of his career with an assist in his debut against Lindenwood (Oct. 1) and a game-winning goal versus Michigan State (Jan. 28).
Cooley, a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist, had a breakout beginning to his collegiate career as he led the Maroon and Gold with 22 goals and 38 assists for 60 points. He was the NCAA leader behind a plus-38 rating and tallied at least one point in 32 of 39 games played for the Gophers, including a season-long, 16-game point streak from Jan. 14 to Apr. 6. A product of Pittsburgh, Pa., Cooley also was one of just six men's players in the country to earn both CCM/AHCA All-American status on the ice and AHCA/Krampade All-American Scholar for work in the classroom.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 grade point average for each semester and had to appear in 40% of the team's games.
