MINNEAPOLIS – The American Hockey Coaches Association announced 2022-23 All-American Scholars on Monday, and the University of Minnesota women's hockey team had four representatives on the list.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester, and had to appear in 40% of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goaltenders. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA.
Fifth-year seniors Grace Zumwinkle and Lizi Norton, senior Madeline Wethington and junior Audrey Wethington earned the honors for Minnesota, as they were among the 531 Division I men and women that were honored.
In her final season in the Maroon and Gold, Zumwinkle continued her excellence on the ice and in the classroom. The Excelsior, Minn. native was a Patty Kazmaier Award Top-10 Finalist, named All-WCHA First Team, All-USCHO Second Team, and was a WCHA Forward of the Year Finalist.
Norton also found success in 2023, as she set a new career high in points (14) and assists (12). The veteran defender was one of nine Gophers to play in all 39 games last season.
Madeline Wethington was also a key contributor for Minnesota in her senior season, as she was named to the WCHA All-Tournament Team as well as the WCHA All-Academic Team. The Edina, Minn. native was also a WCHA Scholar-Athlete in 2023.
Audrey Wethington adds yet another academic honor to her 2022-23 resume, as she was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team and was a WCHA Scholar-Athlete. Wethington appeared in 36 games for the Maroon and Gold last season.
