Release provided from Chase Center
The Golden State Warriors and Chase Center announced today that the venue will host a college basketball double-header, USF Legacy, featuring the University of San Francisco (USF) men's and women's teams on Sunday, November 26. The women will tip off against Colorado State at 2:30 p.m., PT, followed by the men taking on Minnesota at 5:30 p.m., PT, 7:30 p.m. CT.
The event marks the fourth time both USF teams will play at Chase Center following their 2019 appearance against Princeton men's basketball and Stanford women's basketball, their 2021 matchups against Davidson men's basketball and Cal women's basketball, and last year's games against San Diego State's women's basketball and Utah State's men's basketball. The event will be a single-admission double-header. Fans will only need to buy one (1) ticket to gain admission for both games, with tickets going on sale to the general public on August 4 at 10 a.m. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting chasecenter.com.
Trekking west to face the Dons for the first time in program history, the Minnesota men's basketball team finished the 2022-23 season with a 9-22 overall record. Notably, the Gophers will return leading scorer Dawson Garcia (15.3 points per game) in addition to bringing in former Pepperdine guard Mike Mitchell Jr. this offseason. Head coach Ben Johnson enters his third year at the helm of the program after taking the reins in March 2021.
Fresh off of their sixth 20+ win season in the last seven years, the San Francisco men's basketball team will return eight letterwinners from last year's team in addition to a new wave of talent. Notably, former top 100 recruits Mike Sharavjamts and Malik Thomas along with versatile Chinese forward Junjie "Barry" Wang and local Ryan Beasley. Entering his second year at the helm of the Dons, head coach Chris Gerlufsen aims to get the green and gold back to March Madness this season. Overall, San Francisco added five Division I transfers and two incoming freshmen this offseason. The matchup between San Francisco and Minnesota will mark the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
Making it to their third straight WNIT in 2022-23, the San Francisco women's basketball team is eager for success this year as the Dons will return six letterwinners from last year's team, including Debora Dos Santos, who finished second on the team with 7.2 rebounds per game. Entering her eighth year as head coach on the Hilltop, Molly Goodenbour will work to guide the green and gold to another strong season in the WCC after finishing fourth in conference play last year.
Colorado State will travel to the Bay Area for a meeting with the Dons after compiling a 20-12 overall record in 2022-23, which included finishing tied for third in the Mountain West with a 12-6 record in conference action. Similar to San Francisco, Colorado State also earned a berth into the WNIT last postseason. Notably, the Rams will return the 2022-23 Mountain West Player of the Year in McKenna Hofschild, who led the conference in scoring (20.6 points per game) and assists (7.2 assists per game) last season.
