Murphy Named to Preseason All-WCHA Team, Gophers Ranked No. 3 in Preseason Poll

MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gopher women's hockey team ranked third in the WCHA preseason coaches' poll, the conference announced Monday. Redshirt junior Abbey Murphy was also named to the Preseason All-WCHA Team.
Murphy, who scored 29 goals in 2022-23, was named the Preseason WCHA Rookie of the Year in 2020-21, which was the last time she received preseason honors from the conference. The Evergreen Park, Ill. native enters her third season donning the Maroon and Gold after earning WCHA Final Faceoff Most Outstanding Player honors last March. Murphy also won a gold medal with former teammate Taylor Heise and the U.S. senior national team at 2023 Women's Worlds in April, her first gold medal.
Fifth-year senior Madeline Wethington and junior Skylar Vetter also received votes for the Preseason All-WCHA Team.
Minnesota came in behind Wisconsin and Ohio State, who were tied with four first-place votes each, in the coaches' poll.
