Gopher Tennis Fall Season to Debut at 2023 Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team begins its 2023 fall season with the Gopher Invitational at Baseline Tennis Center, Sept. 15-17. The Gophers welcome six teams to compete on campus: St. Thomas, Marquette, North Dakota, South Dakota, Omaha, and Northern Iowa.
Tournament Format
Play begins at 9:00 a.m. (CT) on Friday with two rounds of doubles, followed by singles play starting at 12:30 p.m. (CT). Doubles will be played as one set to six, while singles will be played as best two-out-of-three.
Gopher Participants
The University of Minnesota tennis roster features several newcomers, all of which will make their maroon and gold debut at the Gopher Invitational: freshmen Emma Belluomini and Mia Liepert, and sophomore transfers Anali Kocevar and Sofia Pinto.
Student-athletes Zeyneb Sarioglan, Sofia Pizzoni, and Aiva Schmitz will all be returning as Gophers this season, with Pizzoni and Schmitz opening their season at this weekend's event.
The 2023 Gopher Invitational will mark the Gopher debut of head coach Lois Arterberry and assistant coaches Steve Schram and Anastasia Pennington.

Weather permitting, both indoor and outdoor courts will be used. The University of Minnesota is also scheduled to livestream the indoor courts at the following link.
Post-Match Meet & Greet
On Sunday, Sept. 17, immediately following the final round of matches, the program will be hosting a meet-and-greet for fans at Baseline Tennis Center. This event will feature a chance to speak with University of Minnesota players and coaches, as well as the opportunity to grab brand-new Gopher Tennis posters autographed by this year's squad.

Following the Gopher Invitational, the Gophers will travel to San Diego, Cali. to compete in the San Diego State University Invitational from Sept. 29-31.
