U Heads to Washington for Leadership & Golf Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's golf team is headed to historic Chambers Bay Golf Course for the Leadership & Golf Invitational hosted by Seattle University. The Gophers will compete against 18 other universities in 54 holes of competition between Sept. 18-19.

Round one of the tournament begins on Monday, Sept. 18, with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. CT.

From the Coach:
"We're really excited to tee it up at Chambers Bay in a new event for us," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "This is an iconic course and a strong field. We're coming off two really solid events and are feeling good about our play."

Lineup:
Six Gophers will make the trip to Tacoma for the Leadership & Golf Invitational. The five competing for the team are Isabella McCauley, Grace Curran, Hailey Loh, Sara Tomaszewski, and Emma Carpenter. Graduate Megan Furtney will be competing as an individual.

The Field:
Meeting the Gophers in Washington are BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado, Fresno State, Georgia Southern, Gonzaga, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Seattle University, Southern Alabama, Southern California, UC Riverside, Washington, and Washington State.

The Course:
Play will be held at Chambers Bay Golf Course, the host of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship and 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The traditional links course is one of the premier public golf courses in the nation and plays as a par-72.

Looking Ahead:
Following the Leadership & Golf Invitational, the team will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. This will be the team's final tournament of the fall season and is set to be played Oct. 2-4.
