Gophers Fall 3-1 to Spartans in Big Ten Home Opener

MINNEAPOLIS - Despite late efforts and a goal in the second half, the Golden Gophers fell at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium 3-1 to Michigan State on Thursday evening.
Minnesota dropped to 4-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in Big Ten action following the defeat. Michigan State improves to 6-2-2 and 1-0-1 in the Big Ten.
How it Happened
Michigan State broke the 0-0 score when Emerson Sargeant scored in the seventh minute, assisted by Raegan Cox.
The Spartans tacked on another score on a goal from Justina Gaynor in the 53rd minute.
Minnesota got on the scoreboard to make it a 2-1 game on Sophia Romine's 63rd-minute goal, her third of the season.
The Spartans made it a 3-1 lead with a 71st-minute goal from Gabby Mueller. The goal capped the scoring in the match.

"It was a disappointing effort from our group," said head coach Erin Chastain. "I thought we made some good adjustments in the second half and played much better. We are learning the same lesson again, you have to compete for 90 minutes. I thought we scored a great goal, but we had more chances that we could've been more clinical on."
