Mara Braun Out Indefinitely with Foot Injury

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota head women's basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit announced today that sophomore guard Mara Braun suffered a foot injury against Illinois that will require surgery and will be out indefinitely.
"Mara has experienced an incredible sophomore season to this point and when we heard the news that the injury she sustained on Sunday would require surgery, it was a really tough blow," Plitzuweit said. "The development of Mara's game on both ends of the court this season has been such a joy to watch, and while we know that this setback is incredibly frustrating, we also know that she will continue to be a great teammate and leader in our program. Mara is an elite player and competitor, and we know that she will attack her rehab with enthusiasm and tenacity, and we cannot wait to get her back on the court as soon as her injury fully heals. This is also an opportunity for other players to step up and make things happen on both ends of the court for us."
This season Braun has been one of the Big Ten's top scorers at 17.8 points per game, which is fourth in the conference, while shooting a career high 37 percent from three. She's hit 60 triples this season, which is the ninth most in the country and leads the team in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.0, which is fifth among individuals in the Big Ten.
Minnesota's next test will be at Williams Arena on Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., against Penn State (15-5, 6-3 B1G). The Nittany Lions and Gophers will be seen on B1G+.
