Minnesota Ties Northwestern at Home, 1-1

The Gophers pick up a point at home

ST. PAUL - After a hard fought 90 minutes of play, the University of Minnesota soccer team tied the Northwestern Wildcats, 1-1, on Friday night at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Golden Gophers (8-2-3, 2-2-2 B1G) grab a point at home against Northwestern (5-6-3, 0-4-2).

Sophia Boman scored the lone Minnesota goal of the match, while Paige Kalal assisted her off a set piece play. Sophia Romine tallied four shots on the evening followed by Khyah Harper, who had three. Six other Gophers recorded one shot, totaling 13 on the night.

In the 11th minute of play, Minnesota was awarded a free kick outside of the 18-yard box. Kalal stepped up to take the opportunity and delivered it into the six-yard box. Boman used her head to push the ball past the keeper to put the Gophers on the board.

Minnesota came out of the locker room with the lead until the 48th minute. Northwestern's Caterina Regazzoni found an opportunity for the Wildcats and created a chance for Kennedy Roesch, who finished to tie the game, 1-1.

Minnesota looks ahead to next week for another road trip at No. 7 Ohio State and No. 15 Penn State. The Gophers face the Buckeyes on Thursday at 6 p.m., and the Nittany Lions on Sunday at 12 p.m., CT. Both matches can be streamed live on B1G+.
