MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota Men's golf team concluded the final round of the Alister Mackenzie Invitational Tuesday in Fairfax, Calif., doing so in historic fashion.

The Maroon and Gold concluded the tournament in fifth-place overall, with a team score of 38-under par (277-273-264–814). Their stellar performance in the final round puts their efforts at the top of the program's 18-hole scoring record (264), as well as setting a new program 54-hole scoring record (814).

San Jose State took home first place honors with a score of 56-under par (264-267-265–796), a new tournament record. The Spartan's own Zubair Firdaus took home medalist honors, finishing with a score of 23-under par, the tournament's individual scoring record.

Quotable:
"Today was an indication of what we are capable of," said head Coach Justin Smith. "We know that our good rounds can compete with anyone and we are excited to get back to work to make sure we continue to improve. Our guys broke some long standing program records today and they should be proud of the level of golf they achieved."

Notable:
Freshman Chun-Ta Wu nabbed seven birdies and an eagle, doing so on the par-five 15th hole, in his final 18 holes. Wu's stellar performance carded him a final round of 64, a new 18-hole program record for a freshman. The Gopher-newcomer concluded the tournament tied for 13th place, with a score of 11-under par (71-67-64–202).

Senior Bennett Swavely totaled nine birdies in his final round en route to a final round score of 65 and a 54-hole score of 202, his lowest as a member of the Maroon and Gold. Swavley's final round performance placed him tied with Wu at 11-under par (69-68-65–202).

Senior Eduardo Galdos carded eight birdies in his final round, vaulting him to his lowest 18-hole score as a member of the Gophers (64). Galdos' (67-72-64–203) impressive tournament also nabbed him his lowest score to par (-10), and his lowest 54-hole score (203).

Junior Cormac Sharpe (70-71-71–212) finished the tournament tied for 58th with a score of 1-under par, while freshman Jack Crousore (74-67-72–213) finished tied for 65th with a score of even-par.
