MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota redshirt sophomore Anthonett Nabwe has been named the indoor track and field Athlete to Watch by the Big Ten, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Nabwe broke onto the college scene a season ago as a redshirt freshman, claiming the Big Ten weight throw title in Geneva, Ohio. Nabwe's weight throw championship made her the first freshman to win the event since 2011 (Dani Bunch - Purdue). She set the NCAA freshman record in the weight throw with a mark of 23.36m (76-7 3/4) and was named the Big Ten's Indoor Freshman of the Year. She concluded her indoor season with a Second Team All-America finish, finishing 16th in Boston in her NCAAs debut. Additionally, Nabwe was 13th in the shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships a season ago and holds the No. 6 shot put mark indoors (16.47m | 54-0 1/2) in program history while holding the shot put school record outdoors (17.59m | 57-8 1/2).
With the NCAA indoor track and field season underway, the Big Ten listed athletes from each member institution as Athletes to Watch for the 2024-25 campaign. The 2024-25 indoor track and field season will be highlighted by the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., along with the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.
