MINNEAPOLIS – Head coach Brad Frost and the Golden Gopher women's hockey team have announced that Chloe Primerano will reclassify and join Minnesota's 2024 freshman signing class.
A premium left-handed defender, Primerano will join the Gophers in the fall from RINK Hockey Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia.
At just 17 years old, Primerano has already established herself as a star on the world stage. With 16 points in six games, she set a new record for points by a defender in a single tournament, leading Canada to a bronze medal at the IIHF U18 World Championships. On Jan. 9, the North Vancouver, B.C. native became the first defender to ever score a hat trick at the championships on her way to being named the tournament's MVP and top defender.
Her 16 points is second only on the all-time scoring list to former Gopher Amanda Kessel (19 points).
In the 2022-23 season with RINK Hockey Academy, Primerano led all players with 48 points including a team-best 20 goals in 30 games. Through 20 games so far in 2023-24, she has amassed 26 goals and 38 assists to lead her team.
Primerano is no stranger to breaking records. In 2022, she became the first female skater to ever be drafted by a Western Hockey League club when the Vancouver Giants took her in the 13th round. As the 268th pick, she has attended the Giants' training camp twice.
The 5-7 defender also broke barriers as the first female to ever participate in the annual Creative Artists Agency (CAA) summer camp in Los Angeles.
Primerano joins six incoming Gophers in the 2024 class, including RINK Hockey Academy teammate, Gracie Graham.
