Nabwe is the third different Gopher to be honored by the Big Ten this indoor season.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota women's track and field has its third Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week winner with Annie Nabwe earning the distinction after her record-breaking performance last weekend at the Snowshoe Open. The conference office announced the honors on Wednesday with Nabwe joining Shelby Frank and Brooke Jaworski as weekly winners this indoor season.
Minnesota is the only team in the Big Ten this season to have three different women's student-athletes win a Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor (Shelby Frank, Brooke Jaworski and Annie Nabwe). Nabwe last weekend won both the weight throw and the shot put at the indoor regular season finale, the Snowshoe Open. The redshirt freshman broke an NCAA Freshman record with a weight throw mark of 23.02m (75-6 1/4) to win the event over teammate Shelby Frank. Nabwe's mark ranks her No. 4 in the NCAA this season and is the No. 25 mark in NCAA history, according to USTFCCCA.
At Minnesota, Nabwe improved to No. 3 all-time in the weight throw with her toss last weekend and sits only behind 2018 NCAA Champion Kaitlyn Long and the 2023 NCAA indoor runner-up, and current teammate, Shelby Frank.
Nabwe and the rest of the Golden Gophers will next compete at the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio, from Feb. 23-24.
