Sanders Scores 17 on Senior Night, Gophers Fall to No. 6/6 Iowa

MINNEAPOLIS -- Amaya Battle, Janay Sanders and Grace Grocholski combined to score 47 of Minnesota's 60 total points, but the Golden Gophers fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes 108-60 at Williams Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 14,625 on Wednesday.
Battle led the Golden Gophers (15-13, 5-12 B1G) with 18 points, four assists and two steals. Niamya Holloway pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Minnesota, grabbing 16 boards and turning them into six second chance points.Â

How It Happened
Iowa raced out to an early lead and led by as much as 20 in the first quarter, but Minnesota used an 8-0 late run to end the first down 30-16. The Hawkeyes continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, scoring the first 16 points of the frame and ended the first half with a 53-26 advantage.Â
Iowa continued to push the pace on the offensive end, building a 72-38 lead before Minnesota went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Grocholski, to trim its deficit to 72-43 with 3:39 to go in the third. Iowa countered and stretched its lead to 86-48 heading into the fourth. Minnesota knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 22 total points.
Minnesota could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 108-60. Minnesota took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint in the fourth.Â
