Three Gophers Named to All-WCHA Teams

MINNEAPOLIS - Three Gophers were selected as 2023-24 All-WCHA Team honorees; the conference announced on Thursday. 

Junior Abbey Murphy and sophomore Nelli Laitinen were named to the All-WCHA Second Team, while graduate senior Madeline Wethington was selected to the Third Team.

Abbey Murphy - All-WCHA Second Team
For the third straight year, Murphy adds another All-WCHA honor to her resume. The Evergreen Park, Ill. native not only leads the Gophers, but also leads the nation in goals this season with 31. Murphy has 51 points in 34 games played for the year. The redshirt junior was named WCHA Forward of the Week three times during the 2023-24 season and was a two-time WCHA Forward of the Month honoree. Murphy leads the WCHA in goals (31), goals per game (.91), game winning goals (7) and power play goals (12).

Nelli Laitinen - All-WCHA Second Team
Joining Murphy on the second team is sophomore Nelli Laitinen. After being named to the All-WCHA Rookie Team last season, Laitinen stepped up her play in her second year. The defender from Lohja, Finland has scored six goals and dished out 14 assists in 34 games this season. Laitinen also leads the team and is ranked No. 11 in the WCHA with 53 blocks.

Madeline Wethington - All-WCHA Third Team
For the third time in her career, graduate senior Madeline Wethington has been named to the All-WCHA Third Team. Anchoring the Gophers defense, the Edina, Minn. native has tallied 44 blocked shots. Wethington has also scored 16 points this season, contributing four goals and 12 assists. For her career, Wethington sits at 93 points.
