MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished another 18-holes of competition earlier today at the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. Sophomore Isabella McCauley continues to lead the Gophers after another under par round. She posted a 71 (-1) to finish the day tied for third place. As a team, Minnesota sits in 12th place with a two day score of 293-296=589 (+13) with one round remaining.
Quotable:
"In spite of having two of our athletes in the top 10 we struggled to put together four good rounds to make a move up the leaderboard today," said Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We have another opportunity tomorrow to piece together a competitive round. We need to minimize our mistakes and take advantage of our strengths. Tomorrow will be the same conditions as today and quite windy so course management will be imperative."
Notable:
McCauley leads the Gophers individually tied for third place. She finishes with 15 pars and two birdies on her scorecard with a two round score of 69-71=140 (-4). This score ties for the sixth best 36-hole record in school history.
Graduate Emma Carpenter carded the most birdies on the team, penciling in 3 on the front 9 holes. The graduate's two round score of 70-72=142 (-2) places her in a tie for 10th place.
Grace Curran played consistently at par on the back 9 holes. Curran improved by one stroke between rounds finishing with a two round tie for 64th place with a score of 77-76=153 (+9).
Hailey Loh finished round two tied for 72nd place with a two day of 77-77=154 (+10). She rolled home 10 pars and two birdies.
Graduate Megan Furtney penciled 11 pars and finished the day tied for 79th with a two-day score of 78-78=156 (+12).
Phitchanaj Phongthammarug added nine pars and two birdies to round out her second day competing as an individual. Phongthammarug is in a tie for 82nd with a score of 79-78=157 (+13).
Looking Ahead:
The team is back in action for the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic tomorrow, Feb. 6 with a shotgun start at 5:30 a.m. CT.
