MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota rookie Davide Harabagiu was tabbed as the league's freshman of the week for his performance at the Purdue quad, the conference announced Wednesday.

This is Harabagiu's fourth time winning the award and the fifth time a Gopher has earned the distinction this year.

Harabagiu swam in five events over the weekend, placing first in four events and second in the other.

Individually, the Rome, Italy native won the 100 back (47.06) and the 100 fly (46.03). Each of his times in these events were good enough to clear the NCAA 'B' cut mark.

Harabagiu also led off the winning 200 free relay team with a 50 free split time of 20.04 and the winning 400 free relay team with a 100 free split time of 43.57. Swimming the third leg of the 200 medley relay, Harabagiu had a 50 fly split time of 20.41 which helped the team place second.

Teammate Ian Steffan was the last Gopher to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Jan. 10 while Harabagiu last earned the honor on Dec. 6.

The Minnesota swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Feb. 9 and 10. The team will compete in the First Chance Meet at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
