Gophers Drop Two in Columbia

Minnesota fell to No. 24 Boston University and Michigan State

GAME ONE
COLUMBIA, S.C. - 
The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 5-4 to the No. 24 Boston University Terriers Friday.

Senior Jacie Hambrick (2-3) took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (13-10). Senior Bri Enter started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering one run on eight hits, walking none and striking out three.

At the plate, the Golden Gophers were led by junior Taylor Krapf, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and three RBI. Junior Kayla Chavez furnished a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Sophomore Jess Oakland also helped out for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minnesota scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Sydney Strelow's single.

The Terriers then rallied to score five runs and take a 5-2 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the sixth. Minnesota pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Krapf that brought home Oakland and Chavez, which tightened the Terriers lead to 5-4. The Golden Gophers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

GAME TWO
COLUMBIA, S.C. - 
The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 5-4 to the Michigan State Spartans Friday.

Senior Bri Enter (8-4) came out of the bullpen for Minnesota (13-11) and took the loss. Freshman Macy Richardson was a bright spot for the Golden Gophers, starting the ballgame and throwing 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Golden Gophers were paced by junior Kayla Chavez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Senior Morgan DeBord compiled a standout performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-4. Senior Maddy Ehlke also helped out for Minnesota, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Gophers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Minnesota scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Chavez.

The Golden Gophers then held the Spartans scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. Minnesota pushed across a run on Ehlke's two-out RBI double, which brought the Golden Gophers lead to 4-0. The Golden Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Michigan State scored five times over the remaining one inning to grab the 5-4 win.
