Freshman Focus: Brandon Morvari

There are seven newcomers to the Minnesota wrestling team for the 2023-24 season. In order to get to know them better, GopherSports.com is doing Q&As with each. Up next, Brandon Morvari, a freshman from Richfield, Minn. Morvari was a two-time state champion at Simley High School, winning at 113 pounds as a junior and 120 pounds as a senior. He also placed third as a sophomore and was a part of team state championships in all four seasons.

Morvari went 11-9 overall this season at 125 pounds. He competed in five events, including four tournaments, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Bison Open. Morvari made his dual and Big Ten debut in a 7-6 SV2 loss to Illinois' Justin Cardani on Feb. 9.

GopherSports.com: How did you get into wrestling?
Brandon Morvari: "I got put into it at a young age and stuck with it."

GS: What was your recruiting process like?
BM: "It was a long process for me and a lot of tough decisions had to be made."

GS: What made you decide on Minnesota?
BM: "It just felt like home."

GS: What differences have you noticed between high school and college wrestling?
BM: "You need to be able to wrestle hard for seven minutes."

GS: How would you describe your wrestling style?
BM: "Quick and chippy."

GS: Do you have any pre-match rituals?
BM: "I listen to music and relax."

GS: What is something you are looking forward to in your time as a Gopher?
BM: "Being on a team that feels like a family and creating memories."
