Frank, Mantzouranis Sweep Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Mantzouranis is the fourth different Gopher to be honored by the Big Ten this season.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota earned a sweep of the Big Ten's Field Athlete of the Week honors with Shelby Frank and Angelos Mantzouranis earning the distinctions for their performances last week at the Clyde Hart Classic in Waco, Texas. The conference office announced the honors on Thursday with Mantzouranis being the fifth different Gopher to earn a weekly honor this season (indoors and outdoors).
Last weekend Frank improved on her own discus school record for a lifetime best discus mark of 59.69m (195-10) which won her the Clyde Hart Classic. Her school record throw is No. 2 in the nation this season and is the top mark in the Big Ten. Frank also put forth a lifetime best in the hammer throw at the Clyde Hart Classic, launching the implement 62.78m (205-11) to finish as the top college athlete and pushed her to the No. 6 spot in Minnesota history and No. 13 in the country. This season Frank is the only athlete in the country to be ranked inside the top 13 in both the discus and the hammer throw.
Minnesota's Greek pipeline continues to deliver with Mantzouranis making a big splash for the second straight weekend. At just 19 years old Mantzouranis posted an incredible 73.85m (242-3) toss in the men's hammer throw to win the Clyde Hart Classic. In the process the Athens, Greece, native set the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium record and is the early holder of the No. 2 spot in the nation. The freshman also moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 at Minnesota with the performance, passing up 2023 NCAA All-American Jake Kubiatowicz.
Minnesota's distance crew is in Raleigh, N.C., for the 2024 Raleigh Relays from March 28-30.
