Krapf's Grand Slam Lifts Minnesota Over Illinois 16-1

Home runs came off the bats of Krapf, DeBord, and Oakland
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -Â Junior Taylor Krapf and graduate Morgan DeBord each collected two extra base hits to help power the Minnesota Golden Gophers over the Illinois Fighting Illini 16-1 on Friday evening.
Senior Bri Enter (10-5) got the win for Minnesota (16-15, 2-2). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
DeBord's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-5 day, and included a double, a home run and three RBI. Krapf made her contribution with a double, a grand slam, a walk and seven RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Sophomore Oakland also chipped in for the Gophers, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Senior Sydney Strelow's triple off of junior Lauren Wiles plated two for Minnesota.
The Fighting Illini failed to push any runs across before the Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Minnesota got a grand slam from Krapf to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the Gophers lead to 6-0.
Minnesota kept the Fighting Illini scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Gophers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Krapf, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 12-0.
The Gophers kept Illinois off the board before expanding their lead to 16-0 the following inning. Minnesota hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs across. Illinois put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Gophers still coasted to the 16-1 win.
