Nubin Chosen 47th Overall by New York Giants

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota defensive back Tyler Nubin heard his name called in the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday. Minnesota's All-American safety was selected in the second round with the 47th overall pick by the New York Giants.
Nubin is the 10th Gopher defensive back to be drafted since 2014 and he is the third safety to be drafted since 2020, joining Jordan Howden (2021, fifth round to New Orleans) and All-Pro First Team Antoine Winfield Jr. (2020, second round to Tampa Bay).
Nubin's selection marks the second straight year that the Giants have drafted a Gopher after they picked center John Michael Schmitz last season with the 57th overall pick. New York also recently chose Carter Coughlin in the seventh round in 2020. All-time, Nubin is the 26th Gopher drafted by the franchise. The only NFL team with more Minnesota draft picks is Green Bay with 41.
Nubin played in 55 career games at Minnesota from 2019-23, and he was also a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He made 207 career tackles (143 solo) and had 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He ended his Gopher career with a program record 13 interceptions and his 24 pass breakups ranks eighth in school history.
As a senior in 2023, Nubin started all 12 games of the regular season. He tied for second on the team with 53 tackles and had one sack. Nubin led the team with five interceptions and added four pass breakups. He forced one fumble and recovered one fumble and was named a First Team All-American by The Sporting News and was a Second Team All-American honoree by the AP, FWAA and Walter Camp Foundation.
With Nubin going in the second round, Minnesota has now had a first or second round pick in five straight drafts (2020-24). The last time that happened was 1941-45. Minnesota has also now had at least one draft pick in the last six drafts (2019-24). The last time that happened was 2003-08.
