Minnesota Never Trails in 9-1 Win Over Ohio State

The Golden Gophers start the weekend with a win
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Golden Gophers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-1 win against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday.
Senior Bri Enter (12-5) got the win for Minnesota (19-15, 5-2 B1G). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing one walk and striking out three.
At the plate, the Gophers were led by senior Sydney Strelow, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Jess Oakland compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Junior Kayla Chavez also helped out for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Minnesota scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Strelow.
The Buckeyes failed to push any runs across before the Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the Gophers lead to 6-0.
Minnesota held Ohio State without a run before building their lead to 8-0 the following inning. The Gophers notched two runs off of Ohio State pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Oakland.
The Buckeyes fought back, closing the gap to 8-1 until Minnesota added some insurance in the fourth. The Gophers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Morgan DeBord, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 9-1. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as the Gophers coasted to the win.

» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed three runs across.
» Minnesota grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» The Gophers out-hit the Buckeyes at a 9-1 clip.
