Hooten was the Fayetteville Regional champion with a 9.975 score
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota senior gymnast Mya Hooten has been announced as an individual qualifier to this year's NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships. She will head to Fort Worth, Texas to compete on vault in the national meet, which takes place in Dickies Arena from April 18-20.
Hooten will compete in the second semi final session on Thursday, April 18 and will rotate with Utah. Her 9.975 score on vault during the Fayetteville Regional semifinal round on Thursday night qualified her to the national meet as the top finisher from a non-NCAA Championships-qualifying team.
She's the first individual qualifier from Minnesota since Lexy Ramler in 2019. Hooten will attempt to be Minnesota's second national champion ever and first since Marie Roethlisberger in 1990 (uneven bars).
This will be the third NCAA Championships appearance for Hooten, but first as an individual. Hooten went with the Gophers in 2021 and 2022, where she was an NCAA Championships First Team All-America on Floor and an NCAA Championships Second Team All-American on Vault in both seasons.
In 2024, Hooten was named a WCGA Regular Season First Team All-American on both floor and vault. She was the Big Ten Champion on floor, vault and uneven bars and a First Team All-Big Ten selection. This season, she won Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week five times. Hooten earned three perfect 10's this year on the floor, making that nine for her career.
Minnesota (20-11, 6-3 B1G) ended its season on Saturday in the NCAA Regional Finals in Fayetteville, Ark., after posting a score of 197.400.
