Mezzenga Named Big Ten Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Minnesota Golden Gophers designated hitter, Ike Mezzenga, has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
In three games over the weekend, Mezzenga compiled a slash line of .429/.500/1.071 with an OPS of 1.571. He tallied six hits, three of which were home runs, six RBI and six runs scored.
Mezzenga slugged two of his home runs in Sunday's epic comeback, including a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring the Gophers within three. He then singled in the bottom of the ninth to keep the rally moving and scored on Drew Berkland's walk-off home run.
A native of Shoreview, Minn., Mezzenga was honored in Sunday's Senior Day celebration. After the weekend, he now leads the team in home runs with 12 for the season.
Mezzenga is the first Gopher to be named Big Ten Player of the Week since Terrin Vavra earned the distinction on May 7, 2018. This is Mezzenga's first Big Ten weekly award of his career.
