Gophers Run Rule Michigan 13-1 to Open the Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The University of Minnesota baseball team launched their three game weekend against the University of Michigan tonight, run-ruling the Wolverines 13-1 in seven innings to take game one of the series at Siebert Field.

 

Adam Urban got the win out of the bullpen for Minnesota, throwing 2.2 shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out five. Isaac Morton started the ballgame and went 4.1 innings, surrendering one run on three hits and striking out three.

 

Jack Bello had three doubles, a home run and three RBIs throughout his four hit night to lead the Golden Gophers. Easton Richter furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Ty Allen also chipped in for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and three RBIs.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Minnesota's offense started clicking and put up four runs on an RBI single from Charlie Sutherland and a three run home run from Easton Richter.

 

The Wolverines failed to push any runs across before the Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Jack Bello came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota on a wild pitch, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Gophers.

 

Michigan narrowed Minnesota's lead to 5-1 before the Gophers stretched the advantage to 8-1 in the third inning. The Gophers notched three runs in the frame, coming on a RBI single from Easton Richter and on a two-run homer from Ty Allen.

 

Minnesota kept the Wolverines without a run before their offense got back in action in the fourth. The Gophers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Ty Allen and a three-run home run off the bat of Jack Bello, bringing the Minnesota advantage to 12-1.

 

The Gophers kept Michigan off the scoreboard again before expanding their lead to 13-1 in the sixth inning, scoring on an RBI single off the bat of Davis Hamilton

 

The score remained 13-1 for the rest of the game, as the Gophers coasted to the run rule victory in game one of the series.
