MINNEAPOLIS - Ben Warian held firm inside the top-20 after the third round of the NCAA Championship Sunday and qualified for Monday's final round at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif.
Warian is now tied for twelfth-place After the first 54 holes of the tournament, after an even par 72 in his third round.Â
The top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team qualify for a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday. That determines the 72-hole individual champion as well as the top eight teams that will advance to match play.Â
Warian finished tied for first among those not on advancing teams.Â
Big Ten rival Illinois leads the team competition after 54 holes with a score of 2-under par. Adam Wallin of Ohio State is the individual leader with a score of 5-under par.Â
Starting on hole No. 10 for the third round, Warian finished the first 54 holes where he began, at even-par. A seemingly worry-free day brought about just one birdie and bogey for the Gopher senior.Â
His bogey came on the par-4 14th, but he moved back to even thanks to a birdie on the par-3 8th hole.Â
Through three rounds, Warian leads the field in pars (44) and is tied for second in par-3 scoring at 1-under.Â
