MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota saw seven former players win the inaugural Walter Cup as champions of the PWHL on Wednesday night as PWHL Minnesota defeated PWHL Boston, 3-0 in a winner-take-all game five.
Gopher alums Lauren Bench, Abigail Boreen, Taylor Heise, Amanda Leveille, Kelly Pannek, Lee Stecklein and Grace Zumwinkle were crowned as PWHL champions in the league's first season.
Forward Taylor Heise was named Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP after leading the PWHL playoffs with five goals and ten points.Â
12 players with program ties appeared in the inaugural season of the PWHL across four different teams. Gigi Marvin (BOS), Hannah Brandt (BOS), Emily Brown (BOS), Savannah Norcross (NY), Olivia Knowles (TOR) and the seven members of PWHL Minnesota made up the group of former Gophers.
