Oakland notches two extra base hits in Minnesota's loss to Nebraska
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -Â Sophomore Jess Oakland collected two extra base hits, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 8-3 Saturday.
Freshman Macy Richardson (5-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (26-24, 12-10 B1G).Â
Oakland's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles and an RBI. Senior Sydney Strelow put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Gophers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minnesota plated two runs when Strelow left the yard with Oakland aboard.
The Cornhuskers failed to push any runs across before the Gophers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Minnesota pushed across a run on Oakland's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Gophers. The Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Nebraska scored seven times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-3 win.
