SAINT PAUL - The Golden Gopher women's hockey team saw three alumni selected during the 2024 PWHL Draft on Monday evening. Abigail Boreen, Amanda Kessel and Madeline Wethington were among 42 players selected during the seven rounds of the draft.

Abigail Boreen was selected by PWHL Montreal with the fifth pick in the third round. The forward from Somerset, Wis., most recently helped PWHL Minnesota capture the Walter Cup in the league's inaugural season. In nine games with the professional franchise, Boreen tallied four goals and one assist. She recorded 126 points in 166 games over five years in Maroon & Gold.

Madeline Wethington was selected by PWHL Ottawa with the second pick in the seventh round. The defender from Edina, Minn., wrapped up her Gopher career in the spring. Wethington ranks seventh in program history in points among defenders with 100. She earned her fourth All-WCHA honor this past season to cap off a five-year, 173-game career - tied for the most games-played in program history.

Amanda Kessel was selected by PWHL Montreal with the fifth pick in the seventh round. The former three-time national champion at Minnesota will make her PWHL debut after taking an absence last season to serve as the special assistant to the general manager with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. The 32-year-old forward will look to add to an incredible list of achievements that includes three Olympic and seven IIHF World Championship medals.
