Tucker Novotny Drafted to the Oakland Athletics on Day Three of the MLB Draft

Minneapolis– Left-handed pitcher Tucker Novotny was selected by the Oakland Athletics with the 526th pick in the 18th round on day three of the draft at the Cowtown Coliseum, in Fort Worth, Texas. Behind Wietgrefe, Novotny becomes the 13th Gopher pitcher to be drafted since 2017.
Novotny, the Cottage Grove, Minn., native made 15 appearances (14 starts) for the Gophers, striking out 62 batters in 2024. Heading into the 2024 season, Novotny was ranked No.26 Top MLB Draft Prospects in the Big Ten by D1 Baseball. He was also No. 27 by Perfect Game.
During his sophomore campaign in 2023, Novotny was known as Minnesota's Friday guy, striking out a team best 80 hitters in 73.1 innings of work. In 2022, he was the best out of the freshman group striking out 14 in his six appearances.
Prior to beginning his college career at Minnesota, Novotny was named Perfect Games No. 5 player and No. 1 LHP in Minnesota. During his senior year (2021) at Park of Cottage Grove High School, he posted a 10-1 record, while striking out 114 batters, naming him a Mr. Baseball finalist.
Novotny joins six other Gophers who had been drafted by the Athletics, most recently being Dalton Sawyer in 2016.
The Gopher Baseball program has had two draft picks each year since 2021.
