16 Gophers Named WCGA Academic All-Americans

Minnesota held a 3.703 GPA this academic year
ITHACA, N.Y. -- 16 members of the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team were named WCGA Scholastic All-American Award winners, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced on Wednesday.
Out of all teams in the country, Minnesota came in at No. 17 overall with a 3.7032 overall GPA. 16 student-athletes earned over a 3.5 GPA, while three earned a 4.0 GPA. Head Coach Jenny Hansen's squad had 84.21 percent of members receive Scholastic All-America status. Minnesota ranked 14th in the country in terms of percentage of team members earning the award.
Overall, 63 programs averaged a 3.5 or higher GPA, with 1,174 individuals earning that mark, which is the most ever recorded (since 2008 when statistics were monitored). An impressive 296 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA, another new record since 2008. The average GPA across all reported student-athletes was 3.6103, which is the 2nd highest recorded.
"With another year in the books, our student-athletes continue to raise the bar in the classroom in addition to on the competition floor, and I am always amazed at their ability to manage everything on their plate. Their impressive academic achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and steadfast commitment to succeeding in all aspects of their lives," said Casey Jo MacPherson, WCGA Board Chair.
The student-athletes that were given the 2024 honors are as follows: Marisa Fisher, Gianna Gerdes, Leah Gonsiorowski, Mya Hooten, Katie Horak, Marissa Jencks, Seria Johnson, Emily Koch, Jordyn Lyden, Sarah Moraw, Sophia Nguyen, Jenna Olshefski, Lauren Pearl, Brooklyn Rowray, Megan Steensland and Sophie Swartzmiller.
Katie Horak (Chemistry), Sarah Moraw (Human Resource Development) and Megan Steensland (Business Marketing Education) each finished the academic year with an impressive 4.0 grade-point average.
Minnesota adds these honors to a season in which 11 team members – Gianna Gerdes, Mya Hooten, Katie Horak, Marissa Jencks, Seria Johnson, Emily Koch, Sarah Moraw, Lauren Pearl, Brooklyn Rowray, Ella Sirjord, Megan Steensland – earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
