PARIS - University of Minnesota women's diving alum Sarah Bacon wrapped up her run in the Paris games on Wednesday morning in the 3-meter individual dive preliminary round. Her score of 264.40 placed her one spot shy of qualifying further. Still, the decorated former Golden Gopher will return home with some hardware.

Bacon made her Olympic debut this summer, finding instant success with partner Kassidy Cook in the 3-meter synchronized springboard final. With a score of 314.64, the pair became the first athletes from Team USA to medal in Paris, earning silver. Joining Bacon was Gopher head diving coach Wenbo Chen, who served as an assistant coach on Team USA's diving staff.

Bacon's silver marks the fourth consecutive Olympic games in which an athlete from the University of Minnesota swimming and diving program earned a medal for Team USA.

During her time at Minnesota, Bacon was a 5x NCAA and a 4x Big Ten Champion. Bacon is known as the only woman in University of Minnesota history to have won three or more NCAA titles in any sport, making her the most decorated female athlete in school history.

In addition to Bacon, the Gopher swimming and diving program sent two more athletes to this year's games. Last week, Minnesota rising senior Bar Soloveychik helped Israel reach the final of the 4x200 freestyle relay for the first time in team history. Later this month, Gopher alum Summer Schmit will swim for Team USA for the second time in her career. Fans can catch her in the Paralympic games that run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.
