MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's hockey program has named Peyton Hemp, Abbey Murphy, Ella Huber, and Nelli Laitinen as captains for the 2024-25 season. All four Gophers will don the letter 'C' on their jerseys throughout the year.

"All four of these captains are elite players, but more importantly, great people," said head coach Brad Frost. "They represent our values and all bring a unique skill set to the captaincy role. We are very excited to have them lead our team."

Hemp will wear the 'C' for the second consecutive season after a 14-goal, 30-point campaign in 2023-24. The Andover, Minn. native has been a consistent force for the Golden Gophers, tallying 90 points (42g-48a) in her 115 career games.

Murphy led the nation in goals (33) and ranked third in points (62) last season. The Evergreen, Ill. native served as an assistant captain in 2023-24, and finished the year as a Top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, and earned All-WCHA Second Team and All-USCHO Third-Team honors. She was named to the Preseason All-WCHA Team in lead up to the 2024-25 season.

Huber is coming off a career year, ranking third on the team in goals (18) and points (42) during her junior season. The Northfield, Ill. native has racked up 92 career points (37g-55a) in 115 games, and served as an assistant captain during the 2023-24 season.

Laitinen will wear a letter for the first time in her collegiate career, after a 23-point (6g-17a) sophomore season. She was named WCHA Defender of the Week on Oct. 30. The Lohja, Finland native was selected as a Preseason All-WCHA Team member heading into the 2024-25 season.

The Minnesota captains will don their letters for the first time when they face off with the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. on Friday, Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. CT.
