Sharpe, Swavely Lead Gophers After First Round of Badger Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Bennett Swavely and junior Cormac Sharpe lead the University of Minnesota Men's golf team after the first round Sunday of the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisc.
The Maroon and Gold finished the day at 4-over par, nabbing a first round score of 292.
Notable:
Sharpe nabbed six birdies in his first 18 holes, taking home a 3-under 69 for the day. His impressive performance places him tied for 3rd heading into the second round.
Swavely finished just one shot back of Sharpe for the day, carding a 2-under 70 in his first 18 holes. The Hudson, Wisc. native finished the day in third place in par-four scoring, nabbing a two-under score on the par-four holes. Swavely is currently tied for 11th place overall.
Competing as an individual, freshman Jack Crousore carded an even-par 72, placing him in a tie for 22nd place, while senior Eduardo Galdos nabbed a 2-over 74 in his first round, placing him in a tie for 40th place.
Freshman Chun-Ta Wu (79) is currently tied for 80th, with fellow freshman Ryan Stendahl (83) finishing the first round tied for 89th.
