Gophers Split Doubleheader in Spring Season Opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The University of Minnesota tennis program opened its spring season on Saturday, defeating Middle Tennessee State 4-2 and falling to Florida Gulf Coast 2-4 on the road. The Gophers begin the 2024-25 season with a 1-1 record.

Minnesota vs. Middle Tennessee
The Gophers faced a tough doubles round against the Blue Raiders, ultimately losing the overall point. In the No. 1 matchup, Mia Liepert and Anali Kocevar secured a 6-4 victory over Lena Peyer and Eloise Swarbrick. In No. 3, Ilaria Sposetti and Cassidy Mataia defeated Sofia Pinto and Anlin Xie, 6-4. Middle Tennessee clinched the point with a 7(7)-6(5) win by Alessia Truden and Rutuja Chaphalkar over Yinong Ma and Jeselle Ante.
