MINNEAPOLIS - Freshman defender Chloe Primerano has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. This marks the third consecutive week that a Minnesota defender has earned a conference weekly award (Sydney Morrow on Jan. 6, Gracie Graham on Jan. 13).
Primerano, who returned to the Minnesota lineup last weekend after winning gold with Team Canada in the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship, earns the second WCHA weekly honor of her career. In the Gophers' series sweep against Minnesota State, she led Maroon & Gold defenders with three points (1g-2a) and co-led the team with a plus/minus of five.
Primerano has recorded 14 total points (4g-10a) so far in her first collegiate season, ranking third among Gopher defenders, and has registered at least one point in each of her last four games.Â
The North Vancouver, British Columbia native has already picked up numerous conference accolades in addition to this week's Rookie of the Week honor, having previously been named WCHA Preseason Rookie of the Year, WCHA Defender of the Week on Dec. 9, and December's WCHA Defender of the Month.
