10/6/2025 2:05:00 PM | Women's Hockey
MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota forward Abbey Murphy has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Forward of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Monday. Murphy led the No. 3 Gophers with five goals and one assist in a weekend sweep at No. 13 Boston University.
Murphy continued her hot start to the 2025-26 season with two standout performances on the road. The Evergreen Park, Ill., native scored twice in Minnesota's 5-0 win on Friday, Oct. 3, including the game's opening power-play goal, and added an assist later in the contest. The 2022 Olympian followed that up with her second hat trick of the season in Saturday's 5-2 victory also marking her third straight multi-goal game.
With her five-goal weekend, Murphy climbed to third all-time in Gophers history with 112 career goals, surpassing Grace Zumwinkle (109). She now sits just three goals behind Hannah Brandt (115) for second on the program's all-time list.
The Gophers (4-0-0) open WCHA play this weekend with a home-and-home series against St. Cloud State (3-1-0). Minnesota hosts the Huskies on Friday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. CT at Ridder Arena on B1G+, before traveling to St. Cloud for game two on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:00 p.m. CT on FOX 9+ and B1G+.
