How It Happened
SET 1 | Wisconsin started off hot, tallying six of the first nine points. Minnesota would answer back with a 6-2 spurt to go up 9-8, getting a trio of kills from Hanson in addition to aces from Lee and Swenson. The Badgers re-took the lead again at 12-11 after a pair of kills and a block. The UW would take a 15-14 lead into the media break. Two straight kills from the home team put them up 17-14, forcing a timeout from coach Cook. A Hanson kill and a block from Gilk and Myers cut the lead to just one at 17-16 before the Badgers tallied three straight to go up 20-16. Minnesota called its final timeout at that point to talk it over. A kill from Kinney made it 20-17 before the Badgers totaled three straight kills to go up 23-17. UW would finish out the set with a 25-20 victory. UW hit .357 in set one compared to .258 for Minnesota. Hanson led the Gophers with seven kills on 13 swings.

SET 2 | Minnesota came out strong in set two, scoring three of the first four. The Badgers answered right back, tallying five of the next six to take a 6-4 advantage. The 'U' would get back within one three times before the Badgers scored two straight leading 9-8 to go up 11-8. UW would go up by as many as four at 14-10 before a kill from Taylor and two from Kinney made it 14-13. Wisconsin led 15-13 going into the media break. A service error cut the lead to 15-14 before a Gophers hitting error and a Badgers kill made it 17-14, forcing a Minnesota timeout. The Badgers got their lead up to as many as five at 19-14 before the Gophers made a run. The 'U' tallied five of the next six to make it 20-19, forcing a UW timeout. Garr and Kinney had aces while Taylor had a block. The Badgers would go on to score three of the next four, taking a 23-20 lead and forcing a Minnesota timeout. UW went up 24-20 before a Hanson kill and Taylor solo block made it 24-22, causing the home team to call a timeout. A service error for the 'U' ended set two, 25-22.

SET 3 | Minnesota started strong again in set three, scoring five of the first eight before a couple UW kills tied it up at 5-5. Kills from Hanson and Kinney plus an ace from Lee put the Gophers up 8-5. After a Badgers kill, Kinney and Gilk put down back-to-back kills and Swenson had her second ace to put Minnesota up 11-6, its largest lead of the match. The two teams went back-and-forth until the media timeout, where the Gophers took a 15-10 lead after two more kills from Hanson. The Badgers would slice the lead to just two at 16-14 after scoring five of six after the timeout. Minnesota would get three of the next four, however, taking a 19-15 lead and forcing another UW timeout. A Gilk kill and a Kinney ace gave the Gophers a 21-15 advantage, their largest of the match. Wisconin would get no closer the rest of the set before Minnesota took the third, 25-18.

SET 4 | Two early kills from Hanson put the Gophers up 3-1, forcing a Badgers timeout. UW responded by scoring seven of the next nine to go up 8-5, causing coach Cook to call his first timeout of the set. Minnesota would cut the lead to one at 8-7 after a kill from Kinney and a block from Crowl and Myers. The Badgers responded by scoring four of the next five to take a 13-9 lead, their largest of the set. Minnesota would get it back to three at 14-11 after a Gilk kill before two straight from UW put the home team up 16-11, forcing Minnesota's final timeout of the set. The 'U' got it to 16-13 after a pair of kills before the Badgers took two more to go back up five. The Gophers would get no closer, with the Badgers exploding to the finish, winning 25-16.
