Minnesota Falls to Oregon, 76-70

The Gophers return home to face Washington on Feb. 26
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team (19-8, 7-8 B1G) fell to the Oregon Ducks (18-8, 9-6 B1G)  76-70 at home Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Gophers had four players score in double figures, led by Grace Grocholski, who had 16 points and four assists. Sophie Hart tacked on 15 points and six rebounds and Amaya Battle chipped in as well with 14 points and six assists.
Minnesota shared the ball well in Sunday's game, racking up 17 assists on 27 made field goals. Battle's six assists paced the Gophers and Grocholski also helped out with four assists of her own.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-6, Minnesota went on a 5-0 run with 4:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Mallory Heyer, to take an 11-7 lead. The Maroon & Gold then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 16-14 advantage.
Minnesota kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 9:22 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Battle, to increase its lead to 23-14. The Ducks then came roaring back to take a 37-33 lead heading into halftime.
Oregon continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 52-41 advantage before Minnesota went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Grocholski, to trim its deficit to 52-46 with 2:25 to go in the third. Oregon countered and stretched its lead to 57-47 heading into the fourth. Minnesota played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 14 points in the paint.
Minnesota kept the Ducks from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Grocholski's three, to shrink the deficit to 67-63 with 2:41 to go in the contest. Oregon responded and outscored the Gophers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 76-70.

» Mallory Heyer notched her fifth double-double of the season for the Gophers with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
» The Gophers were incredible from long range, knocking down nine of 15 three point attempts.
