The Gophers will face the Spartans on Saturday afternoon

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team (20-9, 8-9 B1G) hits the road for its final regular season game of the year at Michigan State (20-8, 10-7 B1G) on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed live on B1G+ while Justin Gaard and Lynnette Sjoquist will broadcast the game on KFAN+.

  • Minnesota and Michigan State are meeting for the 74th time, with the Spartans holding a 48-25 advantage in the series that began in 1980. On the road, the Golden Gophers hold a 7-28 record. 
  • Last season, Minnesota faced Michigan State twice and split the two games. The Gophers picked up a 69-50 win at The Barn (Jan. 20, 2024) and fell at the Breslin Center 76-65 (Feb. 5, 2024).
  • Minnesota is looking for its first win in East Lansing since Feb. 26, 2009 when they defeated Michigan State 66-51. 
  • The Spartans entered the week of February 24th ranked No. 23 in the latest AP Poll and No. 22 in the WBCA Coaches Poll.

Gopher Notables
  • Minnesota set a program record this season with 12 nonconference wins, surpassing the previous high of 11 set in seven different seasons, most recently in 2018-19.
  • The Maroon & Gold's game against Ohio State marked the third time this season that five players have scored in double digits, (Montana, Illinois, Ohio State). 
  • On 10 occasions, four have scored in double figures. (Nebraska, Prairie View A&M, UMass Lowell, Illinois, Houston, Rutgers, Maryland, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Oregon).
  • Sophie Hart (22 points) and Grace Grocholski (27 points) combined for 49 points at Purdue. It's the second time this season two Gophers have scored 20 or more points in a game. Against Vermont (Nov. 8, 2024) Mara Braun and Amaya Battle both had 21 points apiece.
  • Grocholski earned Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll recognition for her performance, while Hart set a Minnesota team high in field goals made (11) and set her career high in points.
  • Following Minnesota's win over the Boilermakers, it marked the first time since 2017-18 and 2018-19 that Minnesota has recorded back-to-back 20 win seasons. Notably, it was the 10th time as a head coach that Dawn Plitzuweit has won 20 or more games in her career.
