University of Minnesota men's basketball standout Dawson Garcia has been named to the National Association Of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District, the organization announced today. It marks Garcia's second honor in as many years, as he was a Second Team selection a year ago. The last time the Golden Gophers had an individual claim NABC honors in back-to-back years was Vincent Grier in 2005 and 2006. NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I vote on the All-District honors.
Garcia, a forward from Savage, Minn., was named a Second Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and media. He led the team and ranked in the top five Big Ten, averaging 19.2 points this season. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds, making him the team leader in both categories the past three seasons. In Big Ten games alone, Garcia scored fourth, averaging 19.2 ppg. In 31 games played, Garcia had 26 double-digit games this year, 17 20-point games and three 30-point performances. His 17 20-point games tied for first in the league with Nebraska's Brice Williams. Of those 20-point games, 11 came against Big Ten opponents. In addition, Garcia scored 614 points in 2024-25, which ranked sixth in school history. He ranks 10th in school history in career points (1557), ninth in career scoring average (17.5), 12th in career field goals (546), seventh in free throws made (356) and 10th in free throw attempts (459).Â
This season, the NABC introduced a new model for its Division I district alignment, with schools arranged by state rather than by conference. The modernized NABC Division IÂ NABC Division I district alignment features 10 geographic regions, each encompassing multiple states.
