Minnesota Drops Final Game Against Northwestern

MINNEAPOLIS, MN --The Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-21, 2-8 B1G) had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to the Northwestern Wildcats (18-11, 7-0 B1G) by a final score of 14-3.

Freshman Natalie Susa (1-4) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers were trailing 8-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minnesota got an RBI single from Senior Kayla Chavez, scoring Senior Taylor Krapf from second base.

The Maroon and Gold kept the deficit at 8-1 before closing the gap further in the fourth. Minnesota got run-scoring doubles from Junior Breezy Burnett and Krapf to pick up a couple of runs, which tightened the Wildcats lead to 8-3. The Gophers were unable to get any closer, as Northwestern added six runs to their tally on the way to a 14-3 final.

GAME NOTES

» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Minnesota went 3-for-8 (.375) with runners in scoring position.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 39 Northwestern hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and five fly balls while striking out three.
» Krapf led the Gophers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
» Northwestern was led offensively by junior Kansas Robinson, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBI.
» Sophomore Signe Dohse led the Wildcats pitching staff, throwing three innings of one-run ball.

UP NEXT

The 'U' will be back in action on Friday. They will travel to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on Purdue. The Gophers and Boilermakers will play a three game series beginning Friday and concluding Sunday.
