Seven Gophers Earn NWCA Scholar All-America Honors

MINNEAPOLIS -- Seven members of the Minnesota wrestling program have been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for their work in the classroom and on the mat, the NWCA announced Wednesday.
Receiving honors for the Golden Gophers were fifth-year seniors Tommy Askey, Isaiah Salazar and Andrew Sparks, redshirt juniors Cooper Flynn and Vance VomBaur, and redshirt freshmen Max McEnelly and Ethan Riddle.
All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling. They must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible:
"The NWCA is proud to recognize these outstanding individuals who embody excellence in both athletics and academics," NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said in the release.

- A 3.0 cumulative GPA and earned All American honors
- A 3.2 cumulative GPA and have been a NCAA National Qualifier
- A 3.5 cumulative GPA and been a participant at the conference qualifying tournament
- A 3.5 cumulative GPA and competed in at least 15 matches with a 60% win record
