Gophers Drop Game Two Against Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Minnesota Golden Gophers (13-23, 2-10 B1G) were shutout today by Madi Elish of the Purdue Boilermakers (20-16, 5-7 B1G). The Boilermakers defeated the Gophers 4-0.

Sydney Schwartz (4-12) got the ball to start for Minnesota and took the loss. The right-hander went three and a third innings giving up four hits and 4 runs which were all earned. Freshman Natalie Susa came on in relief of Schwartz and tossed two and two thirds innings. Susa allowed two hits and did not give up any runs while picking up a strikeout as well. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers were not able to get much going on offense. Minnesota got hits from Nani Valencia and Kayla Chavez but were unable to get any runs across. Purdue scored one run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings to take the lead. They added to their lead with a two run inning in the 4th.

GAME NOTES

» Minnesota's offense was led by Valencia and Chavez who each had a hit
» Minnesota pitchers faced 28 Purdue hitters in the game, allowing one walk and striking out one
» The Gophers drew two walks from Purdue pitching.
» Purdue was led offensively by junior Khloe Banks, who had two hits and scored a run
» Madi Elish led the Boilermakers pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings. She allowed just two hits and had two strikeouts.

The 'U' will be back in action tomorrow. First pitch for the final game of this series is 12pm CT at Bittinger Stadium.
