MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of former Minnesota teammates are set to compete Friday night at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn., as part of LFA 217.
The main event of Legacy Fighting Alliance's showcase will see Mitch McKee (9-0) battle against Pedro Nobre (22-8-2) in a catchweight bout.
McKee finished his Gopher career as a two-time All-American and four-time NCAA Championship qualifier. He posted a 91-42 career record with 33 pins, a total that ranked 12th in school history. McKee was a Big Ten All-Academic and two-time NWCA All-Academic honoree.
In addition, the co-main event features the much-anticipated mixed martial arts debut of Gable Steveson as he takes on Braden Peterson (1-0) in a heavyweight matchup.
An Olympic gold medalist, two-time NCAA champion and two-time Hodge Trophy winner, Steveson wrapped up his collegiate career this past season as a finalist at the NCAA Championships. In the process, he became Minnesota's first ever five-time All-American and the only wrestler in program history to produce four top-3 finishes at the NCAAs.
He also won his fourth Big Ten title this season, just the second in team history to win four conference championships and the only wrestler in league history to win four titles at heavyweight.Â
A two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Steveson finished his career with the best winning percentage in Gopher Wrestling history with an 103-3 career record (.972), including a perfect 59-0 in dual competition and 44-0 mark against Big Ten opponents. He embarked on a 70-match win streak, the second longest in program history, on his way to finishing 16th in Gopher history with 59 career dual wins and tied for 43rd in career wins.
The main card is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday on UFC Fight Pass.
