MINNEAPOLIS - Former Gopher Michial Foy is set to compete this week at the Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
While the Championships started Saturday, Foy will first compete Friday at 97kg in Greco-Roman as he takes on Mindaugas Venckaitis of Lithuania. The qualification rounds start at 3:30 a.m. CT with the semifinals set for 9 a.m. Should Foy advance to Saturday, repechage would begin at 3:30 a.m., while the medal matches are scheduled for 11 a.m.
FloWrestling will have streaming coverage (subscription required) and live results can be found at uww.org.
Foy earned a spot on Team USA for the first time after prevailing in the best-of-three series, 2-1, against Olympian Josef Rau at the 2025 CLAW U.S. Open in April. The following month, Foy competed at the Senior Pan American Games, claiming the bronze medal.
A native of Crete, Ill., and the son of former Gopher wrestler and two-time Olympian Michial Foy Sr., Foy transferred to Minnesota for the 2021-22 season after four years at Harper College. Granted an extra year of eligibility due to COVID, Foy reached the NCAA Championships in both seasons in the Maroon and Gold at 197 pounds. He enjoyed an 11th-place finish at Big Tens in 2022, then followed with an eighth-place result in 2023. He was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree in his Minnesota career.
