Gophers Rally But Fall to Badgers on a Buzzer Beater

Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had 20 points and eight rebounds, Isaac Asuma had 17 points and nine rebounds, Cade Tyson had 14 points and a game-tying three-pointer with 0:05 left, and Langston Reynolds added 12 points and 10 assists, but John Blackwell's three-pointer at the buzzer gave Wisconsin (12-5, 4-2 Big Ten) a 78-75 win over Minnesota (10-7, 3-3 Big Ten) in front of a season-best crowd of 10,914 at Williams Arena.
Wisconsin trailed 41-30 early in the second half, but the Badgers used a 14-0 run to take a 66-57 lead with 7:27 left. The Gophers pulled within 72-70 with 0:35 left, but UW had a 75-72 lead when Nolan Winter missed a pair of free throws with 0:12 remaining. Tyson tied the score on a three-pointer from the top of the key with 0:05 on the clock, as the home crowd erupted, but Blackwell's buzzer-beating three at the other end allowed the Badgers to escape with the win.
Crocker-Johnson made 7-of-13 field goals and 5-of-7 free throws for his second 20-point game of the season, while Asuma was 6-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-5 from three-point range to finish with 17 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and five assists. Tyson reached double-figures for the 17th time by going 5-of-10 from the field, including his game-tying three-pointer, while grabbing five rebounds, dishing out three assists, and coming up with a steal. Reynolds recorded his second point-assist double-double of the season and his third game with 10-plus assists. Bobby Durkin finished with seven points and two assists, and Grayson Grove had five points and a pair of steals.
As a team, Minnesota made 27-of-52 (.519) field goals, including 5-of-18 (.278) three-pointers, and 16-of-24 free throws. Wisconsin held a 33-27 rebounding edge and made 25-of-55 (.455) field goals, including 14-of-33 (.424) three-pointers, and 14-of-18 (.778) foul shots. Blackwell finished with a game-high 27 points.
Minnesota opened the game with an 11-8 lead at the first media timeout, as the Gophers made five of their first six field goals, with Crocker-Johnson scoring twice. The Gophers stretched the lead to 18-12 with a 7-2 run, including buckets from Grove, Tyson, and Asuma, and a Reynolds layup made it 20-14 with 11:47 left in the half.
